Laura has always been an artist at heart – at age 17, she enrolled in a Parisian painting school, but soon shifted her talents towards a new canvas and left her paint brushes for makeup brushes. She attended the prestigious Carita Beauty Institute, before later becoming a makeup artist and teacher there.
In the mid-80s, Laura relocated to New York City to launch the American edition of Elle magazine. In addition to helping bring American Elle to life, she created industry-defying looks for Vogue, InStyle, Vanity Fair and Glamour. She was the magazines’ go-to makeup artist for high-profile covers and editorials. Her groundbreaking Flawless Face techniques effortlessly captured the natural beauty of her subjects and established her legacy for flawless artistry.
While contributing to iconic editorial spreads and devising looks for celebrities like Mariah Carey, Sarah Jessica Parker and Celine Dion, Laura struggled to find the makeup formulas, shades and textures she wanted to work with. She began experimenting and mixing her own formulas and created the products she desired for. The Flawless Face was born!
In 1996, she launched her namesake brand Laura Mercier. Inspired by the needs of her clients, the brand’s products were instantly revered for their ease, versatility and natural-looking results.
