Need a new pair of specs? It’s been a hot topic of conversation in the office this week as two of the marketing team are looking to replace theirs. But where to go? With such a wealth of choice, we weren’t sure how to start.
Here, after much searching, are the best places to get your next glasses.
Cubitts
With four stores in London town (Borough, Soho, Spitalfield’s and King’s Cross), this is a great boutique-style outfitters to go when you want a pair of glasses that your friends won’t have. Unless your friends are all hipsters. Find a range of gorgeous styles, or have your new specs designed bespoke here.
KITE Eyewear
With a British design team dealing in Italian techniques, these glasses (they also do sunnies) are totally chic. And with a flat rate of £150 for a prescription pair, regardless of whether you’re -4 or +5, they’re pretty well priced too.
Oliver Peoples
Probably the most likely of the options to feature in the pages of Vogue or GQ, Oliver Peoples specs are American taste-makers with a proclivity for tortoiseshell. Find a list of UK stockists here.
TOMS
Charity company TOMS, famous for the canvas shoes, also does slender, fetching glasses. For each pair sold, the company will offer a disadvantaged person sight-saving surgery, prescription glasses or medical treatment. Watch out for the currently US-only optical section to make its arrival in the UK.
Ray-Ban
Think of eyewear; think of Ray-Ban. It’s a beautiful inevitability and of course, their edit of eyeglasses (as they call them) are as slick as they come. Find ’em here.
