The 18th of January is deemed as ‘Blue Monday’, the most depressing day of the year (however, after the past ten months, we believe there’s some stiff competition). Whilst there’s no scientific evidence that this is true, it’s understandable if you’re feeling a little down today.
In need of a little pick-me-up? As always, we’ve got some ideas to help – ten, in fact.
1. Wake up in some fresh, super soft bedding.
We’d go as far to say that the feeling of arising from a sumptuous slumber in the perfect linens is almost euphoric, especially now it’s starting to get lighter in the mornings.
2. Buy some sexy lingerie, even if it’s just for yourself.
You may feel solace and comfort sporting the same old bra and briefs, but we guarantee treating yourself to a fresh, matching set is even better. Plus, it makes you feel like you’ve got your life together.
3. Start your day with some reenergising-yet-calming yoga.
Feel more zen in minutes, the endorphin rush is worth the early start – we assure you.
4. Fresh lighting leads the way.
It’s time to elevate your aesthetics with some new lights. Invest in a desk lamp to take your home office to the next level, and make nighttime reading that bit easier, too.
5. Take the time to make yourself a fancy coffee.
We all have a favourite mug, so be sure to use that one (we won’t tell anyone your drink is Irish). Or, why not buy yourself a new one? Self-gifting is always a good idea…
6. A hint of slumber is just what you need.
Accompanied with silk? Perfection. Ensure your lie-ins are even better with a quality sleep mask. However, don’t blame us when you end up oversleeping for work.
7. If we must work from home, stay cosy in cashmere.
Staying in your pyjamas can feel tempting, however it isn’t always Zoom call appropriate. The next best thing? Wrapping up in some cashmere. This luxe hoody is both comfortable and stylish, and no-one will notice if you don’t wear a bra underneath.
8. Reignite your love of home-baking.
If you’re feeling nostalgic for the days of Lockdown One banana bread, or simply have a bit of a sweet tooth, you can end your day baking your all-time favourite cake or cookies. Licking the bowl at the end is a guaranteed mood booster.
9. Start a bullet journal
Not had a chance to set your New Year’s Resolutions yet? We recommend starting a bullet journal. It’s a great way to get creative, as well as making your to-do list feel less daunting.
10. Call a loved one – it’s OK not to be OK.
Frankly, if you don’t feel like doing anything today, that’s absolutely fine too. What we do suggest – if you’re struggling – is to reach out to a loved one for a chat. Or you can get in touch with a charity like Samaritans on 116 123 for a conversation.
