On the eve of London Fashion Week, what better way to predict the hairstyles that’ll soon be sauntering down the catwalks than to look at the hair trends seen on display at New York Fashion Week…
Amongst an array of the sleek and chic ponytails and slicked back styles that have continued to feature heavily on the red carpet throughout awards season, New York Fashion Week’s biggest hair trend was exactly that…BIG
On the Mark Jacobs runway the hair was as bold as the lip colours – with bouncing Rita Hayworth inspired waves paired with a uniform red lip. Each girl’s hair was styled into a deep side parting and teased into a major, lion-esque mane.
Here’s how to re-create this look at home:
– Draw the line: A deep side parting yields instant glamour and sophistication, but placement is key. For a symmetrical appearance, the parting should align with the highest part of the eyebrow.
– Apply product: Rub a dollop of TIGI Camera Ready Shiner Defrizzer between the palms and apply to hair – ensuring that you brush it through afterwards to ensure every strand is coated.
– Define the parting: Use the end of a fine comb to establish a sharp edged parting.
– Curl sections: To get the desired ‘soft waves’, choose a medium barrelled curling iron, and break the hair into sections that are approximately two inches wide and one and a half inches deep – then wrap them around the iron. When creating waves – always work from the bottom up.
– Brush through: Gently brush through the waves using a Tangle Teaser or comb. Then lifting the hair in strands, tease with a comb on the underside of the root – this helps to create the volume and body needed for such a big style…
When it comes to capturing fashion’s biggest hair trend this February – the solution really is to go BIG, or go home…
