On this week’s ‘Getting to know you’ feature at BrandAlley HQ, we interview Assistant Buyer Laura. She studied Fashion and Textile Management where she focused on Fashion Buying. BrandAlley was her first job upon graduation and she loves working on Ready-to-Wear, especially the menswear brands. Read about her fave purchases, her inspiration and more:
1. Tell us about yourself in less than 140 characters: A Northerner living in Hackney, London with a love of loud music and all things clothes-related. I have an unhealthy tea-drinking habit and also a penchant for cross-stitch.
2. A book you read that changed your life is… Just Kids by Patti Smith. I went out and got a guitar after reading it, which is now gathering dust in the corner of my room…
3. What is the last thing you bought? I bought a plaid Duster coat from eBay. It looks a bit like a dressing gown but I love it.
4. What BA brand is your favourite? I love working on brands such as Levi’s Made & Crafted which are a trendy and a bit quirky and also the men’s Savile Row brands such as Hardy Amies and Kent & Curwen
5. Name three people, dead or alive that you’d invite to a dinner party. Why? I’d probably go for David Attenborough as I love all his documentaries and he’s a great story teller. Then Sean Lock as he is hilarious. Finally, perhaps Beyoncé for some girl power – we could all have an after-dinner sing-song.
6. As a kid, what did you think you wanted to be when you ‘grew up’? A Fashion Designer as I was always doing fashion shows with my Barbie dolls.
7. What’s your biggest life achievement to date? Completing my degree, landing my job here and making the move to London. London was always a treat to visit when I was younger; I used to come once a year in the school holidays with my family. I still love having tourist days out and about now.
8. Your most ideal place in the world to A) to holiday? B) to live?
A – I’d love to road trip across North America. Hire a car and head down route 66, visiting all the states.
B – Somewhere in Scandinavia. It’s so beautiful over there, especially around the fjords. I visited Copenhagen a couple of years back and I loved it – everyone is so cool and attractive.
9. What are you inspired by? Inspiration comes from everywhere, from friends and family to something I see on my way to work
10. Can you tell us a secret no-one else knows about you? Nope.
Okay then, tell us a joke: Two peanuts were walking in a park, one was a salted
