We think the best thing about SS22 is its ability to create new trends and recycle our favourite old ones. This time, let’s talk handbags.
If you’re still on the hunt for a stylish summer sidekick (summer isn’t over just yet) , we’re here to tell you our favourite handbag trends of the season, how you can wear them, and where you’ll find them on BrandAlley. Let the hunt for arm candy commence!
The Baguette Bag
It’s no secret that 90s fashion is huge this season, and this particular accessory takes us right back to late-90s Sex and The City. Originally designed by Fendi for Carrie Bradshaw (I mean, who else?!), labels like Prada, Coach and The Row have helped to bring the “It bag” into 2022 with fun patterns, embellishments and colour palettes. Long live the 90s nostalgia!
Taffy Lonnie Baguette Bag – Coach – £169
The Monogram Tote
Since the release of Louis Vuitton’s iconic Neverfull bag back in 2007, the “monogram tote bag” has remained what we like to call a “timeless trend”. Although these bags are – you guessed it – timeless, they’re often seen more at the start of summer, when tote bags repopularise due to holidaymakers needing a chic, carry-all accessory. If you’re sporting a monogram tote this year, stick to simple outfits – the designer monogram pattern makes enough of a statement solo!
Denim Dempsey 40 Tote – Coach – £239
Totally Shoulder Bag – vintage Louis Vuitton – £820
The Straw Bag
Raffia, jute and other natural materials are back for SS22. Following in Jane Birkin’s footsteps (we all remember the iconic straw basket bag), labels like Prada, DeMellier and Chloé have put their own spin on the holiday classic. However, the straw bag isn’t just for the beach this year: pair yours with minimal tailoring and loafers to master the city-chic look.
Tide Pool Catch Crossbody – Kate Spade – £149
Monochrome Taya Raffia Tote – Sophia Webster – £189
The Bucket Bag
Another one of our “timeless handbag trends”, the bucket bag originated in 1932 from luxury label, Louis Vuitton. Since then, it’s maintained its shape – deep and cylindrical with a single handle – however, has been reinvented with modern textures and patterns. There’s a bucket bag for every aesthetic, too – from the preppy minimalist to the boho babe.
Noe Drawstring Bag – vintage Louis Vuitton – £525
Calfskin Cumara Bucket Bag – Marni – £459
The Crescent Bag
Croissant or crescent? You decide!
This trend is a Gen Z favourite, swarming social media feeds after the re-emergence of Y2K fashion. This body-hugging style has been seen on the street-style queen herself, Hayley Bieber, as well as other icons like Victoria Beckham and Meghan Markle. Wondering what to wear yours with? We’d recommend a classic tee, a striped blazer, jeans and retro trainers.
Smile Large Shoulder Bag – Kate Spade – £159
