There’s a formula to a weekend. Chances are your Friday night, Saturday and Sunday look somewhat the same each week. Sure, sometimes you take a mini-break or go on a health kick, but in general it’s comfortably, gloriously samey.
With this formula in mind, we’ve made a bit of a playlist to accompany each of the things we imagine you’ll be doing this early March weekend. Here they are.
For: when you leave work tonight
Anne-Marie is talking about an ex-lover but we’re just going straight ahead and applying her farewell anthem to the office.
For: the Friday commute
There’s something about the satisfying trundle of an xx song that fits with the vibe of the Tube. Plus, it can calm you when someone stops abruptly to send an e-mail…
For: the pub
Ed Sheeran’s first album for three years came out this morning. There’s no way you’ll be escaping the acoustic, eclectic crooning and rapping of this pop star.
For: going out when you didn’t plan to
Be all dramatic and nostalgic for the present with this moonlight-soaked return from Lana…”you get ready, you get all dressed up, to go nowhere in particular.”
For: getting in at 5am
Is your head spinning? Does your bed feel like a mechanical bull? Izzy of Black Honey knows how you feel…or we can pretend that’s what she means anyway.
For: the hangover
Be gentle with yourself and treat your ears to the soft beauty of this American group.
For: Saturday Big Shop
Use this hour-long mooch for cheese as an excuse to get to grips with Lorde’s new single.
For: Browsing on Oxford Street
You want a new skirt and a new pair of shoes. But what’s the musical etiquette when it comes to such indulgences? Something off-kilter…
For: The Big Night in
Considering last night ended up in a kebab shop, tonight’s all about Ant, Dec, Ben, Jerry and your new number one man: Stormzy.
For: lazy Sunday morning
Wake up as slowly as is humanly possible to the sound of Mick Jagger’s heart-wrenching tones.
For: pottering around Borough Market
Take it slooooow. Stretch out the hours as long as you can with the help of Palace.
For: brunch
There’s a soundtrack to eggs and sourdough toast and it’s Christine and the Queens.
For: Sunday night dread
The King of heartbreak knows your pain on a scale you’ve probably not even entertained. Wallow in heartache with this smash single from his new album.
