If you love nosing around places usually off limits to the public, make sure you don’t miss Open House London 2012. This hugely popular annual festival, which celebrates architecture, unlocks the door to hundreds of exciting buildings across the capital this weekend, like the Gherkin, the Guildhall and the Sanderson – the statement hotel refurbished by Philippe Starck. You need to book some venues in advance, but you can just turn up to most of them. To be on the safe side, check here before you set off.
Ceramics in the City
Potty about pottery? You could pick up all sorts of treats at this special ‘selling exhibition’ at the Geffrye Museum. Around 50 leading ceramicists and rising stars will be there, offering everything from functional domestic objects to purely decorative and quirky one-offs. Prices at Ceramics in the City range from £10 for mugs and small treasures to several hundred pounds for large statement pieces. As well as the chance to browse and buy, you’ll meet the makers themselves, plus there are free demos and craft activities to entertain the kids.
