Stop, Rest, Recharge

This month, we’ve banned screen time before bed. Instead, we’re picking up our favourite book and losing ourselves within it. Let’s see some of our go-tos.

Chasing the Stars by Virginie Grimaldi

“I love this book because it makes me laugh and cry. It’s a beautiful story about motherhood, friendships and love. All the books I’ve read by the same author are brilliant!”
– Margaux Fleury, Social Media Executive

Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton

“While this is technically an autobiography, it reads like a novel, speaking to growing up, growing older and learning to navigate friendships, jobs, loss and love. Think Bridget Jones’ Diary – but it all actually happened to Dolly! Reading it instantly made me feel better about myself and excited for what my twenties & thirties have in store for me.”
– Jess Pearson, Brand Marketing & Affiliates Executive

A Girl Is a Half-formed Thing by Eimear McBride

“I gobbled this book up in one sitting, but the story stayed with me for weeks after.
The story line is brutal and traumatic, while the prose is uncompromisingly beautiful. We are told the coming-of-age account of an Irish schoolgirl growing up in rural Ireland, surrounded by maddening Catholicism, abuse, and the pure love she holds for her disabled brother. Nothing too exciting there – these are the cornerstones of pretty much every good Irish plot. That’s where the familiarities stop. This book is like no other I have ever read, it’s almost as if the book itself is alive and staring deep into your soul as you read. In some ways this book is hard to digest – it is unsettling, intense and difficult. You consume it with an unslipping grip, always pleading for a glimmer of hope or lightness.
We’ve become conditioned, as readers, to expect our literature heroines to rise above pain and suffering and save the day, or worse still, be saved by romance or the love of ‘a good man’. This salvation never comes, however, what does come is the eye-opening realisation is that our protagonist is wide-awake and fighting for control in all the places she has been stripped of it. Reading this book to will reset your expectations of what good writing is!”
– Michelle Hurney, Head of Marketing

Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover

“This book was an emotional rollercoaster that had me hooked from the first sentence. I binge read the whole book in one day as I just couldn’t put it down! Every Colleen Hoover book is incredibly mind opening and heartbreaking with an eventual happy ending, all while blurring the line between fiction and reality.”
Evanthia Dionisiou, Marketing Assistant

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J. K. Rowling

“In the midst of all the chaos of London life, you can never go wrong with Harry Potter. It doesn’t matter how old you are, a little escape to the Wizarding World on a morning commute or even listening to a Stephen Fry audio before bed can provide you with a dose of nostalgia, curing any hint of the January blues!”
– Charlotte Skinner, Email Marketing Executive
