Celebrate the crowning of King Charles III
Whether you’re a devoted royalist or just happy we’ve another bank holiday, explore some of the fun activities to get up to in London this weekend.
When Is the King’s Coronation?
The Coronation service will begin at 11am on Saturday 6th May at Westminster Abbey. However, there’ll be celebrations all over London (and the UK, for that matter) from Friday 5th until Monday 8th May.
Things to Do in London
Visit the Royal Waxworks
Snap a selfie with the Royal Family (kinda) at Madame Tussauds – there’re waxworks of King Charles III, the Queen Consort, Queen Elizabeth II, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Prince & Princess of Wales. Guests are also invited to sign Madame Tussauds’ Coronation Book – it will then be sealed in their archive and preserved for generations to come!
Ride the London Eye Coronation Capsule
The London Eye like you’ve never seen it before! Exclusively for the King’s Coronation, London’s favourite tourist attraction has decked out one of their pods in the style of Westminster Abbey, complete with a replica coronation chair and crown jewels.
Have a Picnic in Hyde Park
Although it’s forecast to rain this weekend (sorry!), it’s also set to reach 18°C, so grab a blanket, some grub and maybe an umbrella, and head straight to London’s Hyde Park to picnic like a royal.
Join a Coronation Street Party
Chelsea’s King’s Road is set to throw a traditional coronation street party, with live music, parades, flower installations and a delicious street food market. The celebration starts at 11:30am on Saturday, 6 May, and is suitable for all ages!
Visit the Crown to Couture Exhibition
Located in Kensington Palace, the Crown to Couture exhibit displays over 200 iconic ball gowns, suits and accessories, all the while showcasing the similarities between today’s red carpet and the Georgian Royal Court. A must for fashion lovers!
