Look to your favourite celebrities and fashion houses and you’ll notice that hair accessories are back on-trend. Scrunchies, hair bands, head bands, bows, grips, scarves, you name it, we’ve seen it. From Erdem to Fendi and every brand in between, designers are adorning their models with statement hair accessories, taking runway looks to the next level. What was once a small opportunity to accessorise our school uniforms has fast become the hottest hair trend of 2019. And if it’s good enough for the likes of Cara Delevingne, it’s good enough for us!
So whether you’re dressing to impress at your next summer wedding or opting for casual weekend style with a touch of 90s nostalgia, ensure you complete your outfit with a statement hair accessory. Here are some of our favourites:
Oversized clips
One of the quickest and easiest ways to add a touch of glamour to any outfit is to slip on an oversized hair clip. Anything from a tortoiseshell slide to a large pearl clip is ideal and the bigger, the better. These go particularly well with beachy waves or a loose curl. Run your hair through a set of curlers to achieve this look and set your clip in place. Want a sleek finish? A low slicked down bun with a large clip will look just as good. If our Instagram feeds are anything to go by, these accessories are going to be around for a while.
Slogan barrettes
Love. Hate. Cute. Glam. Angel. Whatever your chosen word, there’s a slide out there to say it. These embellished jewels are a throwback to the height of 90s style and we for one are glad they’re back in business. Again, these hair accessories work well with loose waves or a curly up-do. Off to a formal occasion? Try clipping two sections of your hair and fastening at the back. For shorter styles place the clip close to the hairline to show off your slogan.
Velvet headbands
Perfect for your next party or autumn wedding, velvet headbands add a touch of class to any ensemble. Darker shades such as rust or black look great in thicker bands while smaller styles in pastel shades like pink and mauve work well for off-duty style. Pair it with bold jewellery to match and watch the compliments roll in. We suggest carrying a black velvet headband in your handbag at all times so you can instantly update your outfits on the go. Silk scrunchies
Not only are silk scrunchies super cute, but they’re also actually good for your hair! They cut down friction and tension, unlike most hairbands, and help to prevent a frizzy mane and split ends. If you’re a fan of wearing your hair up, silk scrunchies will be your best friend. Unlike velvet versions (think 80s gymnastics) silk ties are a sophisticated, modern accessory. Opt for versatile, soft colours like pink and white or go bold with leopard print.
