It’s that time of year again when designers look to the future and dictate the trends we’ll all be following next year. New York Fashion Week kicked off the catwalks with collections from Zac Posen, Victoria Beckham, DVF and lots more.
Moving away from S/S 12’s floral frenzy, S/S 13 is set to be clean, crisp and fresh. S/S shows always incorporate white somehow and this year was no different. Bright white is always a hot colour for SS – it’s great for showing off a tan! Designers like John Patrick, DKNY & Catherine Malandrino Black sent models down the runway in pretty white dresses, from shifts to skaters and maxis signalling this to be one of the biggest trends for next year.
Monchrome also featured heavily in the shows with Alexandre Herchcovitch, Alexander Wang, Herve Leger by Max Azria, Prabal Gurung & Marissa Webb all working with the classic colours. Retro patterns printed on modern dresses gave this look a contemporary feel with sharp lines and tailoring presenting a sophisticated take on the style.
Although many designers worked with a brighter more vibrant colour palette, it’s easy to see that the theme for SS13 is simple, classic tones. Time to start investing in some Vanish as whites have to stay bright white!
With the clothes and accessories being rather subdued we would have expected lavish make-up but the designers went for a simple look at the start of NYFW. Minimalistic make-up ruled the runways and hair was sharp with a deep parting. Everything about NYFW screams modest effortless chic, worlds apart from the busy patterns and motifs we saw this SS.
