In the 1970s, Joe and Christine, founders of The Libra Company, began collecting antiques on a three-year road trip from the UK to South Africa, selling their finds to independent retailers. Their first trade show in Blackpool led to the creation of The Libra Scale Company, which produced over 2 million scales. By the 1990s, the company expanded its range with the goal of becoming the UK’s leading wholesaler. Joe’s entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to sustainability were realised when he found a way to repurpose offcuts from an Indonesian bed-making factory. This innovation led to the creation of The Libra Company’s mahogany line, selling over 80,000 products made from sustainable wood.
