Emma Bridgewater
“At Emma Bridgewater, we like to make things that make everyday life a little bit nicer.”
Emma Bridgewater began in 1984, when founder Emma Bridgewater was working in London after leaving university. The idea for the brand came while hunting for a birthday present for Emma’s mum. She wanted to give her two cups and saucers that would say 'I love you. I miss you'.
After searching high and low in china shops, she soon realised the high street only offered two ceramic styles: dainty and delicate or plain and robust. There was nothing that captured the charming, welcoming spirit of her mother’s kitchen, and shortly after this, came the decision to try out making china herself.
A casual conversation with a friend pointed her in the direction of Stoke-on-Trent. And so, Emma Bridgewater, the classic modern pottery brand, was born. Over the last three decades, the Emma Bridgewater brand has remained true to the spirit of that original, inspirational moment: the necessity of getting the thought and design absolutely right.
With the belief that everyday kitchen china sits right at the heart of our lives, each cup, bowl, jug, and plate holds a personal story and reflects shared moments. And it just so happens, the Emma Bridgewater customer loves it, too.
