Founded in 1889 by Jeanne Lanvin, the house began when wealthy families requested copies of the clothes the fledgling designer was making for her daughter Marie Blanche de Polignac. Soon, it was not only children requesting her beautiful clothes, but their mothers, too.

Her success grew and she quickly opened a boutique on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore, where her brand was formally classified ‘couture’ by the prestigious Syndicat de la Couture. As a result, she became a notable designer of the 1920’s and 30’s, creating delicate pieces often featuring embroidery, beading and light, floral colours.

Decades passed, and the house was passed carefully through the family, until Alber Elbaz took the reigns in 2001. His tenure brought Lanvin into the modern consciousness, with a focus on the magnificent archives available to him, as creative director. After a short tenure under Bouchra Jarrar, the House is currently awaiting a new creative lead.
