Lyle & Scott
The golden eagle represents a special kind of British quality. Popular for its cotton polo shirts worn by famous faces around the country, Lyle & Scott is a trusted menswear brand with a roster of impressive basics that any wardrobe would benefit from.
Established in Scotland in 1874, Lyle & Scott was founded as a knitwear company by William Lyle and Walter Scott. Loaned £800 to produce high quality underwear for Victorian Britons, the company expanded impressively and soon made a name for itself on a global scale.
By 1926, the factory had expanded into the realm of fashion, applying woollen skills previously used to make underwear onto outerwear. By doing this, Lyle & Scott had doubled revenue within two years.
When managing director Charles Oliver negotiated a partnership with the one and only Christian Dior in 1954, the label reached new, lofty heights overnight. By producing joint branded cashmere with Dior, Lyle & Scott soon forged collaborations with Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Liberty, Bergdorf Goodman and Michael Kors.
The golden eagle became the logo of this knitwear brand in the 1960’s, which soon became the brand of choice for golfers.
Today, the brand is an essential clothing destination for stylish men. Get your hands on your favourites at BrandAlley in our Lyle & Scott Sale.
