Born and raised in Paris, France, Joseph Altuzarra’s namesake brand is the brainchild of a forward-thinking fashion genius. His interest in fashion began at a young age, and grew with his move to the USA in the Millennium. After completing his degree in art history at Swarthmore College in Philadelphia, he moved to New York and began to intern at Marc Jacobs.

By 2005, the young designer was freelancing for Proenza Schouler, and in 2006 he moved into the position of first apprentice at Givenchy, under Riccardo Tisci. For this position, he moved back to Paris for a spell, before returning to America to launch his brand.

Since its launch in 2008, Altuzarra has scored accolades, including positions on the Forbes 30 under 30 and the Business of Fashion’s 500 lists. In 2014, he won Womenswear Designer of the Year at the Council of Fashion Designers America.
