Provocative and boundary-smashing, Ann Summers was born in 1972 when the Gold brothers acquired it from its original boutique on Wardour Street in Soho. In the nineteen-eighties, both sex toys and the Ann Summers Party came into being, making the store a totally revolutionary one.
The lingerie department began selling Bridal collections in 1983, and men’s products in 1985. 1992 saw the birth of the Rabbit toy, which now sells at a rate of one every two minutes. After the shop fronts and inside designs became pink, sales rocketed, though the company is now moving towards a more slick, monochrome design.
